Anyone deal with CV's?

Evening all,

Well i've nearly finished updating my CV so I was hoping someone who has experience of reading peoples CV's and employing staff would take the time to read through mine and give me any pointers.

All the other jobs I've had have always come on merit and through knowing people so any volunteers would be great.

thanks

Dan

Time to dive.

I can have a look if you want. I do interview people as part of my role and so i have seen a few in my time. It does vary slightly with different industries levels etc as to how's best to pitch it. What field are you looking for work in?

Oh word of warning though if you do let me look at it i don't do spelling or grammer so if there are mistakes i won't spot those.

Is it worth following a CV up with a phone call?

Cheers,

Depends if it was an advert you were replying to or sending a CV on the hope of an opening that might not be there.

Also depends on the amount of time has passed since you sent it in. Some job applications have a simple "if you haven't heard in 6 weeks you have been unsuccessful" because of the number of applications they get. This happens quite a bit with graduate jobs I've seen.

Digs.

Might be stating the obvious however its worth mentioning that every single job application should be treated as unique, therefore you should create a CV framework that you can edit and utilse the relevant sections customised to use the language used within the vacancy advert to ensure your CV and application makes it through the agency "key word" filters and that the people reading the CV only have too read relevant information.

Keep it short 2-3 pages Maximum (your framework can be larger but you should only submit a max of 3 pages).

Some basics include, do not put your date of birth on your CV, do not put references on your CV, don't waste space by using up valuable page real estate discussing non relevant positions.

I have never worked in recruitment but I have implemented a couple of HR systems and online recruitment systems. I've also been doing contract work for the last nine years and rarely am out of work (unless its my choice).

Good luck with your job hunt / application.

Davie.

If you still want someone to cast an eye over it I'm happy to do so (15 years in recruitment).

Well, it is cheap stuff and it comes almost from the local gardening store, but it works fine and it's very solid. We tried to destroy one by hitting it with a hammer... we succeeded but we really had to hit it hard - http://www.stde.ch/en/faq.php
