Nah, have a day off Helen! I'm not going to be running every day but the sun was shining so lovely today that I felt like I just HAD to go and run even though I did a run yesterday! Legs are aching quite a bit though (serves me right for going 3 weeks without a run I guess )

I won't be going out tomorrow but will maybe do my yoga video to stretch the aching limbs a bit

Where do you get your calorie info from? It sounds quite high, I used to use my Forerunner and couldn't get to those sort of figures, even when I told it how heavy I really was.

Another shortish run for me today, only 5.25 miles.

Well, I did walk the dog for fifty minutes today so I have done something

It's a balance between feeling eager to just get out there and run cos I've seriously got the motivation again, and the common sense of knowing I can go faster and longer with a day off in between

Incidentally, I tried running the day after I'd been diving last week and my legs were like lead - different muscle groups I suppose but I won't be doing that again!

You lot appear to have inspired me to make more effort, dig out the heart rate monitor and actually start getting on with some proper training instead of just thinking about it!

So, Friday went to the gym (20 mins on the treadmill steady pace of 6.5mph with 1min 'sprints' of up to 8mph, then some weights, followed by another 20 mins on the treadmill doing roughly the same thing but cooling down for the last 5 mins). Saturday dragged myself out on the bike despite the weather - did about 2 hours but didn't get very far thanks to the horizontal rain and what seemed to be a headwind regardless of the direction I was travelling in! Last night spent 3 hours dancing in a club (I agree that this has to count for something!). This morning went for a run - my longest ever - 6 miles in 1hr3mins and just under half a miles worth of warm up and cool down.

I did try to keep within the 'fat burning' limits of my heart rate monitor on todays run and trying to go slowly was definately what got me round the distance but my heart rate was still way above what the HRM thinks it should be even though I didn't feel particularly out of breath. I suspect that I might need to do an actual Maximum Heart Rate test rather than relying on 222 - my age, but they sound pretty nasty!

Still, I've got round 10k for the first time ever - didn't think that would ever happen this time last year!

Definately due a day off tommorrow though - all of me aches now!

My garmin is giving me this info and I have inputted my personal info including age, sex and weight. As the 305 looks at the % gradient you are working at maybe that has a bearing on the calories...and also I used my garmin heart rate monitor today so I guess the calc of calories would also be looking at this too.

Once I've got used to it I think I'll do a bit of an experiment and input Gary's data and let him wear it to see how this affects the calories calc's...

Ooh ooh ooooh! *Jumps up and down with excitement*

Just tried Mr Helen's heart rate monitor and my resting heart rate is back down to 54. It hasn't been that for years since I was last running 4-5 times a week. All the running I have been doing over the last few months is certainly paying off

Even though I still don't appear to be losing weight I am certainly more toned so it is definitely worth it.

Do it first thing in the morning Helen before you even get out of bed and that should give you an even better picture of what your resting rate is...I read to do that recently in an old back issue of runners world...

Good idea, will do.

So far have only had alcohol once since 2 January (we caved in and decided to go out on Friday). Not really missing it at all, which I'm surprised at as I have been known to like a drink

Maybe we can give each other support then as we try to abstain then as I also like more than the odd tipple

I must admit though, that the more running I do the less I feel like a drink...could be the way forward for 2007!!!! My running turns to shite when I have a drinkie or two so maybe that will be enough incentive....

That's what I'm finding. If I run I am knackered and chilled out enough, as well as the 'high' I get from the achievement. We probably wouldn't have gone out for a drink of Friday if we could have gone for a run but the wind was just too much.

Yup, let's support each other! This thread is a good one too.
