Muscle weighs more than fat, you will be burning fat and replacing it with muscle. To lose weight quickly you'd need to start dieting, if not you'll have to wait until your muscle tissues have built themselves to their required size to support your running.

Thanks for that. I am quite muscly to start with (underneath the excess stone that has crept on over the last three years when I stopped running so frequently). I have been running a few times a week for the last eight years, but recently not every other day like I was when I was right in to it. It is because I stopped running so frequently that the weight went on.

I am watching my diet very carefully, but like I said I am prepared to keep at it until the scales start to show the difference.

Doing something is better than doing nothing. I don't want to lose weight quickly, a half pound a week would do me, that way I know it stays off.

I always find that it's better to focus on a fitness related goal than a weight related goal.

It doesn't really matter what you weigh if you are fit. But of course your weight makes a big difference if you are unfit.

It seems like you are already seeing success in your fitness terms but are starting to be demoralised by the lack of weigh loss. Maybe you could set a distance or time goal for your running. If you achieve this then the weight will sort itself out without you worrying about it.

Seems a logical answer...

Eating

i heard an interesting article on radio 4 one morning about how you should eat to lose weight. Basically it boiled down to reversing your meals. Have big breakfast (healthier the better) then a smaller lunch and finally a light snack for dinner. IIRC its along the lines of breakfast of a king, lunch fit for a queen and dinner like a pauper.

it makes sense really if you think about it, have a big breakfast to give you all the energy for the day a top up at lunchtime and finally something to stave off hunger at dinner. the logic behind it is that if you eat a big dinner late in the evening your unlikely to do anything energetic until the next day so you'll be more prone to putting on fat as your body has little else to do with the excess food.

i have to qualify this, i've never been on diet to lose weight quite the opposite and that was over a year when i put about 2 stone on in muscle. lots of very hard weight training and eating, it helps though if your a scrawny stick to begin with.

Thank you Mark, you are right. I would be happy if I just fit back into my old clothes regardless what weight I am

However, I know that I have put a stone on so I would really like to get shot of that, but at the minute I am am going to concentrate on ramping the running up to 5 miles at least every other day. The rest should just follow.

Not an excuse, but finding time for exercise is my main issue.

I'm up at 6am, sorting out the wee ones for nursery, then straight off to work by about 8.30 to 9ish; I work through lunch (always have, never seen the point in stopping when you can eat on the hoof) work until 5, then I'm on littlun duty until about 7.30ish when they (should) go to bed. Then it's time to prepare some form of tea for me and Mrs Doo who gets in about 7.30 to 8 (except if she's out with work) get bits and bobs sorted in the house for the next day (clothes ready for the little ones etc) by 9 o'clock I'm f**ked, the last thing I want to do then is exercise.

Any suggestions

Pete
My suggestion would be to stop working through your lunch and go for a 30 minute brisk walk instead..or go for a brisk swim if you have the facility locally.

David.

Hey Frosty, watch it, there are four in the mafia now and I will be down your way soon so be nice to Helen.

I've lost 3 lbs (whoopty do) and have been for 7 jogs and 3 walks.

I prefer walking, jogging makes my knees hurt!!

Being in LURVE helps a lot too!!!!!!!!
