Well just to be a smug git I've just gone for a half hours walk along the beach. The question is do I burn more callories walking on sand or does it just feel that way?

I guess the midlands if fair (unless everyone who wants to participate is in a specific bit of the country) - May is better for me than April but pretty much any weekend in May is fine. Can I suggest we avoid anything described as 'hilly' or 'multi terrain' - I'm a bit of a wimp

Running as YD - for RNLI (or DDRC) sounds like a good plan. We could get T-shirts - I'm getting all excited now.... Easily pleased me

I'll have a look at the locations and dates and pick one then we can give the 10k idea a thread all of it's own and stop taking over this one

I am at work so only have a steel deck to run on. Tried that last week and could hardly walk the next day. Just walking for me now, 45mins most days and watch what I eat. Lost 1/2 stone so getting there slowly.

I feel good - because I'm a LOT lighter than Frosty!
Put on 10lbs in last 4 months.
So.. started again properly last Sunday - went to gym after a 3 week lay off..
PAIN!
Cut out the snacks at work.
Slimfast for lunch Monday and Tuesday.
Power walked to the Globe Monday - reduced beer intake by 33%
Day off today
Was at the gym by 08:30 this a.m.
Worked harder and not as painful.
Globe again this evening - beer consuption remains depleted by 33% (compared to usual!)
Home made low cal soup for lunch Thursday & Friday.
Pool re-opens after maintenance in a couple of weeks so will soon be back to my 3 miles per week swimming. Speedos will be out again!

Health wise you are probably correct, as long as your blood pressure and heart rate echo this perceived fitness.

But when it comes to exercise weight does come into it even if you are really fit. Exercise that is affected by weight like running, stair climbing or walking, excess weight really does make a difference.

I am fit, I am overweight, I cannot run as fast or for as long as I used to, it's not fitness related as I can swim further then I ever have been able to. I can still sprint 100m in 13.9 seconds, my long distance is all to pot at the moment. I am trying to lose as much weight before London as I can. The more weight I lose the faster I can complete the marathon.

Rule of thumb for somebody running between 6 & 10 minute miles, take your weight in lbs and multiply it by 5, that will give you a rough calculation of how many calories you burn an hour. Everyone is different, but this is a good estimate.

I feel a bit guilty reading this post, whilst, eating half a box of after eights, and drinking Irn Bru, but as I'm only 10st 4, I feel I can get away with it

( only joking about the 10st 4 ) but not about the after eights, they are lovely

hope all your diets go well, I really must start one,
