I'm currently running 3 times a week and gymming it 3 times a week two. Gym sessions are always 50 mins cardio (20 rowing, 30 cycling), stretches, and weights that my physio suggested to keep my knee going. Runs alternate between 11km (flatish), 12.5km (medium-big hill), and a 10 miler which includes a bloody big hill. Hoping to extend the long run to a half over the next couple of weeks, and then slowly improve my time over the distance. If I can get under two hours over that hill then I should do pretty well on the flat 1/2's I'm doing (pretty well relative to my expectations Am extensively using MapMyRun.com - Map your Routes. Calorie Counter, Distance, and More. to track my progress. I'm a physicist so seeing numbers and graphs makes my brain happy First race in just under 3 weeks, it's the Great Wales Run (10km) around Cardiff Bay. Lloyd

| Training pays off! On Monday I finished the Etape du Tour 2007. This year's route was stage 15 of the Tour de France - Foix to Loudenvielle. It was very good but insanely hard. 199km, 4500m of climbing made up of 5 Pyrennean cols, 2 second category, 2 first category and 1 hors category (beyond category). I took 11hr20minutes to finish - the winner did it in 6hr 21! The pros are expected to do it in 5 1/2 hours or so on Monday. BIG respect!

| Diving has been getting in the way of my training. Badminton has restarted on Mondays, still running Wednesdays, the odd run on Sunday. This didn't bode well for todays race, a half marathon in Truro. But, I finished it, the time wasn't good. It was hot and sunny, they had changed the original course of 2 significant hills to 7 significant hills, so that didn't help either. But, I finished it that's all that mattered.

| Having got out of the habit of the Gym duing August (holidays, injured my back, my boss was away (we go to the gym at lunchtimes, so motivate each other go leave our computers...) etc.) I went back 3 times last week. My sons under 8 Football team has just started training again (I assist the coach) so 2 hours of running around a football pitch yesterday, and my son talked me into going for a 4-5 mile cyle ride up and down the chilterns yesterday.... So, slacked a bit, but getting back to it! On a brighter note, when I decided I needed to do somthing fitness wise, I weighted 14 st 3, and had high blood pressure. I now weight 13st 1, and have slightly lower than average (for my age) blood pressure. I probabaly should have another Cholesterol test soon, as my last one was "a bit" on the high side, but hopefully, with increased exercise and a concious effort to reduce my fat intake, that too should be lower... How are you all doing? Andrew |

| So, as the year draws to a close, how did all you other "YD Fit Club" members get on with their fitness regimes? Apart form hurting my back a couple of times, and having to go easy because of it, I've managed to keep attending the gym. (I think todays session will be my 140th of the year). Haven't been so active with my sons football team this season, as they have had loads of matches, where I just stand still and shout, rather than run around! Weight-wise, I started the year at 14st 3lb, and I'm going into Christmas at 12st 12lb (whether I am still that at new years is another matter So, overall, I'm pretty pleased... what about you? | Funnily enough, I was just thinking about this thread yesterday. I am still going jogging, although I have to admit to only managing it sporadically over the summer. Still struggling with my weight, but at least I haven't put any on! I'm going into the New Year feeling very enthused and positive. Here's to a thinner and fitter 2008

| gave up smoking 9 months ago now, ran 1 marathon, 1 half marathon, 3 10 milers and 2 10k races, loved them all once i'd finished and hated them all half way round. i say 1 marathon it was only supposed to be 24 miles cross country but we did 26, kind of self explanatory really. in the gym 3 times a week and running 3 times a week with long run at the weekends, usually 15-20 miles depending on what we feel like on a sunday morning after saturday night. |
