| Seat Leon diesel good choice. An Octavia is a great car as well. VAG diesels 110/115/130/140 bhp in all the VAG Group models is the way forward

| I just drove an Octavis 2.0 Tdi 140 back from the french alps. 725 miles in one day; 90mph all the way; ave 49mpg; superb car - comfy - roomy - huge boot - didn't miss a beat - what a great car and terrific value

| how about a second hand BMW320d, by far the best small diesel engine. You should get one for that money. Make sure you test one before you make up your mind on anything else |

| He's right - terrific, smooth diesel. Not quite the same economy as the VAG 4 cylinder engine tho' Estate doesn't have much of a boot tho' Higher running costs and insurance

| If you go for VAG i recommend the 1.9 TDi @ 110bhp (most economical of the lot) My Octavia can return 75mpg on a steady run @ 65 mph! Loads of power even if you thrash it you will be unlucky to get an average of less than 50mpg (i haven't in 3 years) To get the good mpg they really need to be on fully synthetic VAG oil, but the good side is you then skip every other oil change so it actually works out cheaper (& you get more mpg) My son has a 320d on an 02 plate, we both prefer the engine in the Octavia! he just cant bring himself to own a Skoda tho'! I sold my 323i coupe for the Octavia, (had 5 BM's in a row) BUT my next car will be the Skoda Superb! They are very underrated, which is great as you can pick them up for a song |

| I drive a Ford Mondeo which has PLENTY of boot space and regualry fit two twins sets and two sets of full dive gear no probs. At work we use the Skoda Octavia VRS which is a great car and you can pick them up pretty cheap, they also do a lesser 4 x 4 version now which is nice as it has alot more ground clearance, i can tell you this helps!!! |

| Ran the VOLVO 's in Fleet ......repairs repairs plus the drivers seat is hell unless you are under 5'10 but even then the seat only goes so far back and then no leg room in back........not a proper Volvo really IMHO IMHO VAG either VW or OCTAVIA (build on VW slightly better trim etc and then another slight hike up to Audi A4)Good diesel and nice package. There are High mileage late models out there look like new at cheap prices and with a diesel good for 200k+ you cannot go wrong -Mates 1.9 TDI has 250k and drives like new Then again make sure you have lots of test drives in a new one so you have a baseline before you buy..........easier to spot a dog db |
