New speed cameras either side of the Blackwall Tunnel?

I rcv'd an email from a friend - I have no idea if it is true but:-




New "undercover" Speed Cameras which were introduced a few
weeks ago on the A12 are going 'live' on Monday.


We have had a tip-off from the BTST Locator update team that
small 'specs' cameras have been sited both north and south
of the Blackwall tunnel on the A12 in London.


The cameras have been sited in a deliberate speeding hotspot
(because the limit reduces to 30 very suddenly without any
advance warning) and the fine has been raised from the usual 60
pounds, to 100 POUNDS per offence.


But here is the really unusual thing...


They have NOT installed signs warning drivers of this speed
trap.


Why?


Because they are not be going to be hitting drivers with a
licence endorsement as you would usually expect...


...they are just going to take our hard earned cash instead!


This is just the latest case of blatant profiteering from the
countries "safety camera" partnerships.


Our information tells us that these new cameras are going 'live'
from Monday (12th February).


The speed limit for the tunnel is 30 mph northbound and 40 mph
southbound.

If there are signs notifying you of the speed limit, why do you need signs notifying you of a speed camera?

Not sure, but I thought they HAD to warn Motorists of speed cameras, otherwise it becomes entrapment!

But I agree totally, Councils are just out to take our money. But if we speed then we're playing into their hands.

This would require a change in the law.

And secret speed cameras wouldn't stay secret for very long once the NIPs started to land on speeders doormats.

Ahh the Blackwall tunnel i took a Guinness truck though there from the wrong side and boy did the police get shitty. blocked the tunnel for a few hours, then i realised what all the flashing lights were for before i went in

nope, it would be entrapment if they put up a sign saying "speed as fast as you like, there are no cameras or police here".

They have to put up signs and have yellow fixed cameras if the SCP wants to keep the money, if there are no signs then the money goes to the courts.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me (the email, that is). While there may be cameras, the email reads very much like a conspiracy theory.

If they're Specs cameras they can't be undercover - they're clearly visible above the road, painted yellow (though smaller than normal cameras) and you should easily see them BEFORE you pass them. If you don't see them, you're probably not paying enough attention to the road ahead.

I don't believe someone installing a camera can unilaterally decide that their camera will fine more than others, so unless all speeding fines have increased i'd ignore that bit.

And incidentally, wouldn't most drivers prefer to pay an extra £40 fine instead of having points on their license? The cost of losing a license (or even just having points) will be far far far more than the extra paid out in fines!

if someone kept walking through your property and you were able to fine them each time they did it (trespass laws to one side for a moment), even if you had notices asking them to do otherwise, would you fine them and keep the money?

No. I would sot it out so they could do what they want and not have to tread on my land.
