I'm all for an extra bank holiday, but St Georges day seems a rather ridiculous time to have it.

After all most of our bank holidays are in April & May.

It would seem much more sensible to have an additional BH say in October.

And it's Feck all to do with me being a Celt!!

Of course the old argument is they just get lots of EU money we do not get,not true. Using modern terms :-( they have a lot better work life balance.

We miss out on this and the continued staying out of the euro is not doing us any favours. Much of what I produce goes to the EU. No wonder they call us treasure island they can always hide higher prices with currency exchange rates.

When I worked in Norway they often had a b/h on a Tues or Thurs, the Companies gave the workers the preceeding or following day off rather than have the office half empty on the other day. it was neither an officil holiday nor was it to be taken as annual leave. I forget which month it was but from a self employed point of view it was a damn disaster, as usual, the good stuff we come last in Europe (or near enough).

I'm all for a few extra b/hols, I certainly dont want them in the winter months though, so lets rule out Oct - Feb for any extra days.

In Portugal the problem is that when there is a holiday on Tuesday or Thursday everyone takes the Monday or Friday off. It causes havoc for the whole week. However if a holiday lands on a sunday or Saturday then it doesn't pass on to Monday as in the UK.
