non diving medical question

Quick question for any medical guys out there. On Feb 5th I had to go to hospital to have small tumour removed from the side of my head (the tumour was on the right hand side, just above the eye). the tumour turned out to be non malignant so worries over. the surgeon put internal stiches and 6 external stiches. One week later I had to go and have the stiches removed. this was done and all has healed. However in the last day or so have noticed a small white object which looks like a piece of thread appear at the bottom of the healed wound. What I need to know is how long does it take internal stiches to dissolve and is it possible for a piece of stiching to work its way to the surface.

Firstly don't worry. Yes it is possible for deeper sutures to make an unexpected appearance at the surface. Disolvable sutures vary greatly in the `length of time they take to disappear from a week to over a month. My advice would be not to pull it out but see your GP or practise nurse to have it looked at. They'll probably pull it out anyway!
