Cornflakes... remember them?

It happened this morning... I've been trying to find something that my little one and a bit year old will eat at breakfast... so, while out shopping the other day, I purchased a box of Kellogg's Corn Flakes (KCF), something I haven't done in years, come to think of it, I probably have never bought them before; the last time I ate KCF would have been when I was still a child, so my parents would have bought them for me!

So, anyway... I get my lads bowl, pour in the full fat milk, sprinkle on a little sugar, and start to feed them to him (he did try to feed them himself, but this not the most successful operation for a one year old to carry out!); this is when I caught a whiff of them, just the most subtle of wafts as the spoon was passing from the bowl to the mouth of the hungry one. Something happened, I'm not sure what, but floods of nostalgia came rushing back to me... memories of finishing my paper round, getting home and greedily spooning back mouthful after mouthful of the crisp golden cereal... of warm sunny days sitting on my back step, drinking the last dregs of the sugary cold milk before running out of the house to meet my friends; of chatting to my older brother over the breakfast table, talking so fast and with so much animation about the things we were going to do that weekend; of rushing my breakfast down so quickly, that the milk would sit around my lips like a glossy, white lipstick...

I had to try some... it was incredible, the rush of emotions was like something I don't think I've come across before...

Needless to say, I had myself a bowl (with semi skimmed milk, as that is the modern way, isn't it?)... amazing... something as simple as a bowl of Kellogg's Corn Flakes could conjure so many emotions... strange....

I'm not surprised; if a Cockatiel asked me, I'd share too.

Those things are vicious.

I regularly have cornflakes, and always kellogs. I still put sugar on them, but my son doesn't. It isn't really good for them

At the moment, I am getting a bit frustrated... I don't much like nuts, so I have always steered away from 'crunchy nut cornflakes'. I have seen ads on the telly for Kellogs cornflakes with honey... but can I get them? Not in my local Sainsbury's, or Waitrose.

BRB... going for a spot of breakfast

Yeah, I wouldn't add sugar to anything I was feeding to a child. I'm sure we only develop a need for sugar on cereals and in tea & coffee thanks to our parents.

Anyway Cornflakes contain a shedload of sugar already - too much salt as well if you read the box

I got the glow from ready Brek as a kid.

Loved Frosties (with added sugar)

Still known to have weetabix or Frosties both with extra sugar.

Still eat Ready Brek in the winter, ideal breakfast food, long slow release of energy throughout the morning, but also have a real weakness for all the frosted cereals - Frosties, Frosted Shreddies & Frosted Wheaties - though not with extra sugar!!!

best wishes
John

Whilst on the subject of baby food I also like dry Rusks!! but not for brekkie!!
