| clydesdale bank-fraud email Dear All Received an email this morning re confirming bank details with Clydesdale bank. Quite interesting as I don't bank with them! Please be aware that this is a fraud and watch out for it. Did ring the bank but they seem a little off-hand about it-"oh yes we know about that "- thanks for your call bye. So watch out |

| This is generally known as "Phishing" ie. they are fishing in the hope that you will respond, including asuch details as account numbers, passowrds, PIN nos etc. Most decent security software on your email system will catch these types of threat... Andrew |

| In addition to all the emails from the Halifax and other Building Societies asking me to update my account details - none of whom I have accounts with... I'm now getting emails from Paypal asking me to update my account details - always occurs just after I've purchased something. Interesting that when you look at the detail of the email (in the header) that the path is never back to Paypal... Just goes to show that you should never reply to any of these I won't even reply to a "won" from ebay via the embedded link - always go back to ebay/paypal using the correct url and access that way The fraudsters are getting more clever all the time... |

| Would be interesting to know if anybody else on YD got this e-mail, as I got it too and my e-mail address is usually very secure and I never normally get them. I wonder whether the originators are using the YD members lists for addresses?

| Some email addresses I think the phishers take a guess. I've also noticed that phishing emails do not use your name in the email. So if, you can't see your name, be suspicious. If you can see your name, still tread with care and never follow a link from the email - instead surfing to the financial institution concerned via your known, usual way.
