| Chocolate.... help needed In my fridge is a chocolate egg. A present from Mr Scubee. However, I am not allowed to eat it until I can explain the relevance (if there is any) of stuffing chocolate eggs, painting eggs, the easter bunny, and ducks and their connection to the primarily Christian religious festival of Easter. Over the last 4 days (since Good Friday), i have eaten a fair amount of chocolate, and now all I have left is one solitary, lonely, cadbury's egg (medium size, Sainsbury's £3 for 3). i would like to get it eaten before the next chocolate festival if i can. Mr Scubee is very mean. Presesents shouldn't really have conditions, but I have agreed to go along with this. Can anyone shed any light on this please? (chocolate withdrawal symptoms will start in a day or two!)

| Someone once told me that the name of the festival of 'Easter' comes from the pagan Goddess of Easter who had the ability to change herself into a hare, hence the Easter Bunny. I don't know if this is true or not. Easter is celebrated at different times each year because of the Jewish festival of Passover, which is dictated by the moon. Passover was being celebrated at the time that Jesus entered Jerusalem the week before his cruifixion. HTH Hxxx

| Yippee... more evidence Isn't it funny how man of our religious festivals also have their roots in pagan festivals. Apparently, in some parts of the US, the Easter bunny is called the Spring Bunny to avoid religious connotations

| Who cares? Choccie egg has just been personally delivered, despite the fact that it melted on route Now (the egg, not myself) sat in fridge melding into indefinable lump, which will be eaten in one go tomorrow as as everyone knows, chocolate evaporates within hour of opening! Roll on ten o'clock - breakfast time! Enjoy! Well I will xx

| I thought the egg thing was to do with the shape of the rock that was rolled away from tomb jesus had been stuck in after he had been crucified or something along those lines................

| Easter in the Christian faith celebrates the crucifixion and rising of Christ as a means of saving mankind, eggs are a way to symbolise this, with the birth of a chick from an egg. Most Christian festivals are overlays on earlier pagan dates and/or rites, and may churches in Britain were deliberately built on sites sacred to the older gods and godesses of the country. That should get you choccie! |
