PiP: Pubs in Portland

Hi guys,

Will be staying in Portland on Friday night and it's the first time we'll of stayed down that way (kipping in the YMCA BTW). Can anyone recommend a good pub with decent food and fine ales? Non-smoking is preferable as I understand you neanderthals haven't ban that in your country yet

Thanks, Lloyd.

Well there is always the good old Breakie The Royal Breakwater Hotel - The Place To Stay though I am not sure about the fine food and ale (don't send me lots of reds) and they do have a non-smoking section.

If you want some really good grub go next door to the Portland Roads (its opposite the Hotel Aqua). They do get pretty busy in the summer so if you want to eat there you might want to reserve a table.

Enjoy and probably see you out and about over the weekend...

Jules

I second what Jules says above - The Breakie is the only place to drink if you're a diver in Portland, even though they lost their top barman some years ago (me)!

Kev.

if you mean by the harbour, it will either be the Portland Roads or the Breakwater.

we had a big dooey down there a couple of years ago, tried to book a table in the roads for dinner but both chefs had the night off (Hmmm.... saturday night in the middle of summer ffs!) anyway, we didn't much fancy squishing into the breaky, and none of us wanted to drive into weymouth. Then someone had the bright idea of a chinese takeaway. What fun that was... going to a chinese and ordering £120 worth, then setting it all up in the pub to eat. Bless the barstaff - they didn't much fancy a night with no-one in the pub!

i dont remember it being down the harbour...we stayed in the bunkhouse....walked over the road, up the street (left) and then went up something that looked like someones drive....and there was the pub and the big pebble beach...
