I was diving the bus at Stoney while a guy tried out my inverted twins and there were some other divers near by.

Suddenly one swam up and started making signals and I almost grabbed for my bailout reg to wave at him in case that was what he wanted when he pulled out the old wetnotes and introduced himself. He had seen my name on the back of the ol' yellow box and decided to come over and say hello.

We had 'met' on the uk.rec.scuba usenet forum but never in person before that point.

Same here - I met Callisto in the far end of Capernwray and we introduced ourselves via wetnotes then too

Another useful time was when coming across a guy whose HP hose was bubbling furiously. No amount of hand signals worked, but out came the wetnotes and problem understood - dive aborted!

They take up so little space (if you've got pockets) that why not take them?
