However I think it is fair to say that the good ol' US of A does have a history of problems with youngsters and gun crime that does not exist to the same extent in this country, and I feel that this article exposes the different culture that exists over there, where an 11yo killing something with a high powered hand gun is something to be celebrated. |

| Carl You are absolutely right and I have little time for the US attitude to guns in general. Equally though, I have little time for the anti gun kneejerk reactions that I see so often in this country. Far too many people want to pretend that the clingfilm and polystyrene wrapped lamb, beef, chicken etc that they eat wasn't a warm animal a short while earlier and are happy to delegate the task of killing and preparing the meat to someone else. The fact is that Hungerford and Dunblane were tragic exceptions and legally held guns in this country have never been a major factor in crime statistics. I also had issues with the number of times the poor beast had to be shot by the kid, a hunters obligations are to be safe and to be humane, anything shot should be killed as humanely as possible. I recognise that there are all sorts of ethical and moral questions tied up in this but IMO, unless they are vegan then a large number of the people who raise their hands in horror are hipocryts.

I know the aminal products I eat have caused some amount of sufferring to the animals. I try to minimise it to a degree, free range organic eggs and meat where possible etc, but fact remains some suffering goes into the food I eat. The key difference is I am not proud of it, I don't celebrate it, and I take some small steps to minimise it. This kid wounded the boar and chased it through the woods for hours before finally putting it out of it's misery. That IMO is a lot more suffering than the free range organic chicken I ate last week. And the crucial difference is the kid enjoyed it, got a kick out of it, and is congratulated and celebrated for having done it. THAT is the big difference and the big problem I have with this case. HUMANE hunting which results in the animal being eaten I have no issue with. This was not humane. My 2p. Dave.

| Dave you are quoting me selectively, I agree with you and have a real problem with how the poor animal was killed.

Tend to agree with you on the legal gun ban too. Looks like we're in Violent Agreement - good job we're not armed Dave.
