According to Longwood's site she will need 6 months unexpired before the date of return travel.

I travelled to Egypt in November with only 7 weeks left on my passport and no-one batted an eyelid. We have the same six months currency rules when travelling with work - many have flaunted it and i've never heard of anyone coming a cropper. Hope it helps.

Would you risk it?

Okay, if it's a genuine mistake, you may get away with it (not by pleading you didn't know, but just by the fact you aren't worried so are casual about the whole thing, because you DON'T know).

But she knows it's over the requirement?

I wouldn't risk getting to the airport in the UK and the airline picking up the fact that it is due to expire... or the same the other end.

She has still got a week or so, could be worth a personal trip to the Passport office.

Saying all of this, I've not known anyone get refused because of it.

This doesn't really help, does it?

Passport rules are getting tougher, I have been told to get my passport replaced even though it has over 12 months to go because there is a tiny mark on the photo. Despite the fact that it has been there from new.

Looks like it can be done... but would be worth a call

Travelling within two days - Identity and Passport Service

or

Travelling within two weeks - Identity and Passport Service

I haven't called the number, but the website is usually up to date.
