| I'm officially half American and half English, born in Portugal. So I had the choice of 3 nationalities when I was brought to the world. When I was 16 I had to choose between Portuguese and American, the reason being that I would have to do Portuguese national service and by doing so would loose the American nationality. In the end I chose the American and kept the British. Both passports are very useful. To complicate it further as my family have been away from the UK for more than 3 generations my sprogs can not be British or even American. They will be Hungarian as that is my wifes nationality. If born in Portugal they will not be automatically be entitled to the nationality. As I live on the border with Spain where the closest hospital is there and better there is a real chance that - god willing if we kids - they will be born there. My nephews are Portuguese and Australian. Well I am a real 'Heinz 57' but married to a pure bred Magyar with pure Hungarian blood. I admit I'm lost for words when I«'m asked what nationaility I have. To answer the question, if you have a British passport keep it if you feel British. Bear in mind that after this morning when I was applying for a passport that it cost € 190 for a darn passport!
