Can a tenant of a property register that address as the legal address for a ltd company without the knowledge or permission of the landlord ? the rented property in question is a private dwelling if that makes any difference

Now for the long answer

Yes they can.
It can be any address that they have access to. I had to return some forms once applied so I would have needed access to the registered address to complete the company registration.

Or you could just be a cheeky git and turn up at someone's house a week later and say sorry put the wrong house number on have you any post for me?

I'm not so sure on that one.

It depends on the tenancy agreement. Most state they are not to be sub let etc and the also must be solely used as a residential dwelling. Registering a Ltd company *may* take it out of that realm.

Check the fine lines on the agreement. There will normally be some ambiguous clause in there to stop it.

Although in a normal short hold tennancy agreement there is a point which says the tennant can not run a business from the property. Used one of these?

you may be breaking your tenancy agreement but Companies house will not stop you/care about that.

To set up a company bank account you will need proof of adress but to register the company you need proof of address of the director not the registered address
