| Imported post So far we've been very lucky on this board to have a small group of like minded people who can post and interact without things turning into a food fight, but we still have the luxury of being a small group of souls, There are other forums which have been victims of their own success with a mass of different posters with many different personalities and hundreds if not thousands of opinions on every subject posted... Stick 6 people in a room and you'll have a group of friends, stick 60 in the same room and before long there will be fights. We must be very careful not to become smug and develop a 'Holier than thou' attitude, because we too could become victims of our own success, As you all know we are very quickly becoming well known and will no doubt attract more and more people to the board, which is what we all want, but with that popularity follows the dangers of loss of control, or being charged with heavy handedness, or not allowing free speech if we do try to keep control. Moderators are quite often pushed into a no win situation in the forums that they run and are faced with unhappy people no matter which decisions they make. Unfortunately I've been guilty of being involved in a flame war in the past, I'm sure many of us have had at least a little snide at someone or other at various times, it's very difficult NOT to get dragged into something on a forum which allows flame wars and slagging to exist, which is why we need moderators in the first place. YD has a great history so far, please lets make sure that we do not let ourselves, our comments, or our opinions degenerate into something that we will look back on and regret. If I were to read in another forum, comments about this site, and the people who use it being slagged off, I'd be incensed and would feel the need to defend it/us, no doubt becoming part of the very thing I hate most (A flame war) To this end, I'd like to suggest that we don't let ourselves slip into the habit of publicly making derogatory comments about any other forum or individual. Lets keep it hippy like..... Love & Peace man. Dave :thumb: (Edited by Dave Williamson at 5:32 pm on May 20, 2002) |

| Imported post Personally I dont give a #### about who wants to flame who or shag a chicken and all that, I dive my plan but am not so narrow minded to expect anyone else to... thats why Im a member of this site and proud of it , Im not going to get into the politics of it all and whos from which site and what, why we should agree and why we should not..personally Id rather hack anyone coming onto this site with that attitude ..because I feel that over the time this site has been established it would be a shame to let the barnacles settle on the hull and spoil the trim.... Diving is fun ... lets keep it that way |
