May people are put off contesting the fine, because if you were speeding slightly, the fixed penalty is 3 pts and £60 whereas by contesting this can open up the oportunity of the crown to impose bigger fines and more points as well as costs etc, I always thought this to be a bit unfair and slightly intimidating.

Do you have a 'go faster stripe'? On the car I mean, not you.

I believe the lowest speed that they prosecute at is 10% + 2 above the limit. In a 30 zone, that's 30+3+2 = 35 mph. I guess your mate was just under the borderline 35 mph and you weren't.

Guidelines used to be 10%+2 but those were guidelines only.

North Wales in particular with the psychotic in charge there decide to do 0% + 1mph

Some forces still use the guidelines, some dont.

Guilty until proven innocent. About the only area in UK law where that seems to apply. Suits them though, protection of revenue stream.

Exactly what I thought.

Add that to the surveillance cameras, with facial and number plate recognition....and the compulsory DNA database.

Stalin would have loved it.
