Okay ... being sensible for a change..... I have previously hypothesised that ABILITY = TALENT + TRAINING + EXPERIENCE So everybody can improve at any activity through training and experience, be it scuba diving, free diving, horse riding or what ever. Ultimately though each individual is limited by their initial talent for the activity. To reach the heights of an activity though, I need to think of a way of adding OPPORTUNITY to this equation because it may be that I have the talent to be the World's Best anything but I have not had the opportunity to find that out. Clearly the combination of all of those things give one the greatest ability and then one has to bring in other things like DESIRE and in particular a certain SINGLE MINDED RUTHLESSNESS which is the rarest quality but seems to be the differentiator at the World Champion level. Whether this is a good thing for humans to do is questionable but then you open up a whole can of worms as to what the point is of the Human Race anyway? .....and unless Finless as been at his mind altering substances we are not going to have a clue. | Just to clarify one or two points which seem to be being misinterpreted. It is perfectly possible to be able to respect someones achievments and abilities without actually wanting to either shag them or be their best mate. I fully respect Tanya's abilities and achievments in her chosen field. I also rather resepct david Atenborough and what he has achieved. I don' t think either if them are particuarly attractive, it doesn't make me a bad person. If you go back to one of my really early posts in this thread, you will see I said exactly the same - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I was at the NDAC a couple of months ago when there was some freediving competition. I had a really interesting chat with a couple of the people there, to the point where I thought I might like to do a course. I am still looking into it. I also looked into the support that Freedivers have. 'Angels?' - OC or CCR divers sitting (or rather hovering

| i was watching one of his really early programmes on Sunday. he had some really cool footage of nudibranchs. He was quite. erm... dishy I expect is the phrase... when he was a lot younger. I wouldn't want to wear his suit (or pyjamas for that matter) though. I do, though, wish i had a teeny portion of his knowledge of the animal kingdom. The fish part. Maybe he can keep the snakes bit. I know enough of those.

| had me thinking a bit ago about role models and why some of our athletes and world champions aren't really publicised by the mass media to be Role models, then i remembered reading through Heat magazine and realised a true champions lifestyle is one of training and discipline which makes for limited gossip appeal, when the best some pulp magazine can offer is 'what drug is winehouse on this week' and who's who of bulemic celebs. what do you think the average teenage girl would want to read? time for our mass media to begin to care about health and welfare over market share? yeah right! |
