bank charges grrrr

great just did online banking and found a big flashing red thing that says charges are liable for last month.

????? tells you that you owe the bank money but doesnt say what for?

thats useful!, not overdrawn? didnt take cash from credit card? no cancelled cheques/no new services

sheesh the last time they did this, it was on a technicality where they made a mistake. all my statements and online banking says X = overdraft limit. their computer says X-250. They still havent corrected this either.

paid it that time since it was too much hassle to sort it out.

but this ones a bit too big to leave it.

Know the feeling - had a letter online telling me I went overdrawn
I couldn't see it - I phoned them up - they uummed and aahheed after about 10 minutes on the phone. Eventually said they would waive the charge this time - this time why? - oh my supervisor told me to say that :-)
but you don't get a letter saying the charge is waived you just have to hope
they remember - will be watching next week when they said it would come out.

Anyone know when the court case is finished re bank charges or did I miss that?

Hope you get your money back or don't get charges!!!!

The OFT V's Banks test case is going ahead in January.

Have a look on www.moneyfacts.co.uk there's pieces about charges and details about the best bank accounts

I do have some questions near the end, skip the first few bits if not interested in what has happened.

bast*rds, they changed my bank account type, removed my overdraft and increased the interest rate charge for borrowing then charged me for reinstating a new overdraft limit!!!!! WTF?!!!

surely this is illegal, i am furious!!!! i received absolutely no warning about this all.

i spoke to the them on the phone managed to get some of the charges removed but not all of it since she didnt have the authority to do it.

she said "oh you should have received a letter from us a few months ago". i didnt get anything, besides the one where I started some ISA stuff with them. so when I'm bringing them business, they contact me, when they want ar*e rape me they dont.

just contacted another bank to check how easy it is to switch,

off to the bank tommorrow to chat to them, if they aint removing the charges and giving me favourable terms, off to new bank on that day.

Questions.

Can I legally claim my money back? I am pretty damn sure thats illegal for them to change peoples account and charge without warning? i.e no written prior notice.

if not I can close my account before some of the remainder charges come out of my account. is that a good idea? or will they deduct it anyway before transferring it to the new bank?

That will depend on what is in the small print of the agreement you have. I doubt it is illegal, but it may be contrary to the terms of your agreement. However, if they say thay have written, and can demonstrate that they have, you will be deemed to have been notified, whether or not you actually got the letter.

They will deduct outstanding charges on closure.
