Using a car/Mobile phone fine

Just seen this on Sky news: Minister Broke Motoring Laws |Sky News|House Ads
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Home Office minister Liam Byrne has pleaded guilty to using a mobile phone while driving.

The immigration minister was fined £100 with £35 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

He was also given three points on his licence.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------What the hell is a Victim Surcharge? Is it another Government tax they've slipped in?

Seems somewhat unfair to have a flat levy of 15 quid I think a sliding scale would be better, bigger fine, bigger levy.
Mobile phone /car driving - I better not comment, its friday, chill.

Matt

I was a passenger in a car with one of our engineering staff the other day - he has a work-provided phone in a car kit on the dash. As we were driving along, his own phone (in his pocket) rang, so he fisdhed it out and answered it, shortly after which, one of Tasmania's Finest drove past in the opposite direction, eyeballed the phone, braked and chucked a yewey and came barrelling after us, blues and twos going, so my bloke turned the phone off and chucked it under the floor mat. Copper jumps out after we'd pulled over and accused him of being on the phone.

"No I wasn't" said he, "it was in the holder the whole time."

"Give it here" says the Copper and scrolls through the Call Register.....nothing.

He was very suspicious and asked if I had a phone.."Yep, certainly have."

"Hand it over."

Checks mine, again nothing.

He just knew we'd pulled a swifty on him but in the heat of the moment, he couldn't figure it out.

Best laugh I've had in ages.

Depends if you think it's dangerous at the time........straight road, no other traffic, I don't see how it's any more unsafe & distracting than a police officer using a two way radio in the car whilst still on the move.

Maybe you should have celebrated with a couple of beers each while driving along then. As long as you thought it was safe.

Seeing as he's the immigration minister can we deport him for this crime?
