Looks like they pay about 6 quid an hour down at Tescos - maybe he should go and talk to them - learn some useful life skills and the real value of money too.

| Eldest child (11) was on a system of chores to earn up to £7 per month! (This was subsidised by her father to the same amount so effectively she could get £14 a month). But....some of her peers are on £20 a week. For a 14 yr old I'd suggest a flat rate of about £5-£10 a week and if he wants more then he can do chores at a negotiated rate. | My pocket money stopped when I started diving .As soon as I was able to earn, I was told I wasn't getting any more money for free. This then evolved into a series of interest free loans that I paid back over a series of months. Previous to that, I had a sliding scale based on how much I wanted to do to help around the house. So, if I didn't get off my arse, I got something stupid like 20p and it increased as I did more. I had a mate who got £150 a month, but she didn't get ANY more after that, unless it was something a bit special, then she got help, like I describe above. I suppose I get a form of 'pocket money' now, but that's just to make sure I still have some money left over to eat after I've bought gear and gone for a dive to 'test' it. Anyways, need to keep the rate down, else they won't leave and get a job! Keep it under a quid a day and then they can go get a job. I was on 4 paper rounds at 14 to pay for breathing and to get 'the boys' off my back I think your boy is taking the Picasso a bit. £45 a week is 9 ish hours work for me at the mo. |

| Bloody hell, I was halfway through my 3 year apprenticeship ( 1986 ) before I earned £45 per week, and now it's pocket money , Quote:

| Thinking about it, if you're paying out £45 a week, thats a day on a boat you can't have, and after 15 weeks, that's a trip to the Red Sea you can't have........ See, gotta put these things in Perspective! ![]() (Glad I'm far too young and immature to have kids!) |

As far as part time jobs went, as kids we'd do anything for extra money. I used to get 10 bob, or £50p if you're posh, plus I had 2 paper rounds and I'd still be expected to keep my room clean and tidy!
