| I confess to the drink. My dad climbs the walls when he thinks I'm spending his money on beer. He shouldn't worry, his cash goes on important things like diving ![]() He then proceeds to ask me if I'm actually doing my degree or just taking advantage of cheap air and courses. Of course the answer is doing my degree..... apparently. |

| When I were a lad...I used to get 1$ Singapore a month, but only if no significant sins had been found out. They were always committed, but sometimes my dad never caught me Later on when we returned to England, I used to get half a crown every Sunday for singing in the local church choir and 7/-6 for singing solo at a wedding if there was one. Hard to believe I was a choirboy... £45 per week is a p1ss-take

| This is over twenty years ago, but I used to get £3.75 a week pocket money conditional on my cleaning and keeping tidy my own bedroom. In addition to this I also got my Family Allowance every month which IIRC was £27. Out of this I had to buy my bus pass (£10), all my clothes and my toiletries. In addition, I often cooked, ironed, emptied household waste bins, walked the dog and did other chores. I was expected to do these as part of the family. £45 a week sounds a lot.

FMS Paul!!! That's nearly as much as I 'earn'! ![]() I think fellow-mi-lad has got it slightly wrong, and extracting the Michael somewhat! At 14 I didn't have pocket money as I had a weekend job, so all parental contributions stopped You get my vote for sending him up chimneys! S xx

Excpet mine works over a fortnight. When I was 14, i was getting £4 a half term. Out of that i had to get everything I needed from washing powder to toiletries and sweets. If I add up the amount I spend on my son in a month (including clothes) it doesn't add up to £180. If it did, i wouldn't be able to afford to go diving! Foggy - you are being taken for a ride!

| pocket money my 15 yr old gets £20 a month but has to do chores such as load dishwasher and tidy up to earn more money he has to do more chores |

| My son gets £139 per week. Out of that he has to pay £90 for accomodation. So he has nearly £50 a week for food, books, clothes etc. But....he is 21 and at Naval College. £45 a week for a 14 y.o. is a lot over the top.

Either that or you need to get him onto a more cost-effective mobile tariff as that's more than I spend on my mobile in a year, and was always too tight to get hooked on drugs... my folks got me a Saturday job once I reached about 15 and I had a car-washing round to supplement my pocket money before that. Once I started earning regular income, they made a point of principle that I should contribute 1/3rd to the household budget to get into the habit of paying my way and learning that nothing in life comes free. Obviously, once I started earning proper money, then I did the sums on whether board and lodging would cost more or less than the 1/3rd deductions.... if you don't set that in place now, he'll still be living at home when he's 34....
