How long did it take you to put that together?
It took me four attempts to decipher it!
I'm not sure where it came from but one of my friends occasionally said it... She's a nutty Welsh bird if that's a factor

I'm a newcomer to Northumberland. If you are thinking of coming here, don't. It's horrible. If you are already here you "know what I mean . It's reet greet like".

One amusing thing to me is that daan saaf a Chav (Cheltenham Average) is a chav (short A). Up here it's a Charve or charver (long A). Since most other words like bath and path etc have a short A up here and a long A in the south I'm interested to know the etymology of this.

This all sounds like fighting talk from where I come from, what does it mean again?

Actually 'bost yer plimpet' isn't fighting talk. My Dad used to use it in the context of telling you not to strain too much if you were lifting heavy loads "watch out or you'll bost yer plimpet" he'd say. No idea where it came from but he was raised in South Shields by a Northumberland Grandmother.

I do like dialect and colloquialisms. I was never brought up to be 'broad Geordie' but the older I get the more I use local dialect. It feels like 'home'.

Done and did! Another footballer quirk often added to the dropping of "ly"

"He done brilliant"

No, no, no!!

"He DID brilliantly" (unless he played for England )

I had a colleague who used to drop in "like you say" at odd points of a conversation, the odd thing is I always tried to remember when it was and how I had said what he refered to, plain truth was I never had said it, most confusing.
