| Well do you? Mrs Gram43 has a pet hate regarding standard everyday language and its this:- In a normal conversation that you may have with someone try and be concious of how many times you say "you know!" you may be surprised. I keep telling wifey that everyone uses this phrase in everday life as part of assuming people understand what you're talking about, even the God of Chefs - Mr Ramsay says "you know that" doesn't he? Yet how many times does he get pulled up over it. Does it bother you? Have you ever noticed how many times you say it? do you give a sh1t? If the world was full of Vicky Pollards then maybe we'd have something to complain about, yeah but, no but!! Whaddya think?

| I did a training course with a very lovely lady recently but became increasingly irritated by her finishing every sentence with 'Do you know what I mean?'. People who say 'errr' and 'ehmm' constantly in their speech are also irritating. These days I'm generally finding quite a lot of people irritating as I slide towards grumpy, self-indulgent and intolerant middle age

| As are people who insist on sticking "yeah?" at the end of every sentence to check you understand or agree! As for "like", well, just don't get me, like, started, you know what I mean. It's also, like, really really irritating when, like, people can't, like, finish a sentence without, like, raising the tone of their voice to turn a statement into, like, a question. This is the 3rd such post I've recently replied to and I'll be happy to reply to even more. The "erm" and "er" problem which I suffer from is, IMO, due to excessive politeness in that you don't wish the person with whom you are conversing to think you are ignoring them whilst you buy yourself some time to think of or phrase your reply? I tend to do it when I'm under pressure or nervous.
