Costco Nitrogen fills!

Went to Costco this week and they will fill your car tyres with Nitrogen if you buy new ones. Apparently it helps with fuel consumption and handling? Does that mean your car gets bent if they get the mix wrong?

My car got bent when I took a corner wrong in the Marina car park.
It had mix in the boot but not the tyres.

Nitrogen runs cooler than air and is denser, therefore the gas will not pass through the membrane of the tyres.
It's used a lot in motorsport.

Not really sure what "runs cooler" means in the context, but it's certainly not denser. I even checked before rushing into print - 1.25g/l as against 1.429 for Oxygen.
(Air is obviously in between and nearer nitrogen).

Though having looked up it might well leak out marginally slower - but only if I've understood Van der Waals radius correctly.

Obviously the tyre thing is bollocks !

however for your average every day family car it make absolutely no difference. Just say no to the extra charge and tell them you'll fill your tyres with the free 79% nitrogen mix that you have access to.
My local garage said it was £1.50 per tyre and looked amazed when I said no thanks. And then asked where I could get 79% nitrogen from for free!

Surely the more dense the gas the higher the weight/litre? So Air must be marginally more dense than pure nitrogen then??

So is more density in the tyre gas good or bad? Nobody has confirmed this?

Yes indeed, the latest conjob.

The only issue I've ever had with tyres is wear & punctures. Marginal losses in pressure are quickly dealt with by a quick toot from the free air offered next to the not so free petrol bowser.

Still, I guess there are plenty of gullible dinks out there who are looking for crap to spend their obviously not so hard earned on.
