Yesterday I was listening to a couple of Islamic experts on Radio 4. Both agreed that infact the Sudanese (who are not ruled by sharia law) over reacted.

However, and all those liberal UK individuals should note of this, one of the experts stated that anybody who insulted Mohammed should be subjected to capital punishment - he was challenged on this but maintained his point of view that any person who insults Mohammed should be put to death.
How the hell is he allowed to say this!

Aren't they ruled by sharia law? I thought it was imposed when the latest government took over which was why they then had a civil war with the black, largely Christian/animist south.

I know we are ment to be feling sorry for the teacher but...... surely she should have been aware of religious sensitivities and maybe thought again. I dont think that the punishment if it goes ahead would be fair but its the law in the country that she was teaching in.

I feel sorry for the lady concerned but the fact is that she chose to go and work in a country with laws different to ours. Having lived and worked in many countries over the years, I'm firmly of the belief that when in Rome etc. It is important that you respect the laws of the country you are in or if you feel so strongly about things then leave. If you must drink then don't go to a "dry" country, It is the responsability of the nationals of that country to change any law or government not the responsability of an outsider. I also believe that this goes for visitors to our country, but sadly we are too liberal in that respect sometimes.

It has also been said that people get the government that they deserve. Look at the muppets we have leading our country, Since we do very little about it we deserve what we get. If people really wanted change a higher percentage would march, vote, etc.

He is welcome to his beliefs so long as he pisses off and practises them somewhere else. I am not against ancient traditions etc etc just religion and especially against any radical views on religion.

The world would be a much nicer place if religion was banned. Just like the unions and the HSE it has had its day and now is just bloody irritating.
