Mohamed the Teddy Boy?

Oops? That should be "Teddy Bear". I of course refer to the school teacher who inadvertently broke the law by allowing school kids to name a teddy bear as Mohamed.

What a bloody useless state of affairs. OK, I understand about being sensitive to other people's religious beliefs but I really think we have gone too far in acceding to other's beliefs.

Some (most?) of these Islamist people/fanatics today seem worse than those religious nutters from here who went a-Crusading back in the day when knights were bold and ladies weren't invented, so knights drilled holes in big long poles and had to be contented?

I swear to God this world would be better without religion.

Well, I hope this is a case of the Sudanese (I think) authorities maxing the media attention and then releasing her and kicking her out of the country in order to get their message across. Apparently crowds have gathered outside where she is being kept?

I am almost really pissed of with the faith of Islam and its adherents. I mean, referring back to the cartoons in the newspaper some time ago and the furore that caused, I still say WE live in a free country (for the moment) and have our own laws about censorship etc. If you don't like them then piss off to some Islamic country.

Actually, this should really be in the gobby soap box bit. Oops.

I maybe wrong here but...

Aren't lots of muslim people called Mohammed ?
If the above is true, do their parents get a beating for naming them that too? If its ok why isn't naming a bear the same thing ok?

I think "naming humans is OK but naming false idols aren't" - something like that.

I was told that in Germany, or it might just be certain parts of Germany, there are a list of acceptable names for children and if you try to register a birth with one that is not on the list you are told to think again.

Apparently Adolf is currently on it and yet a hundred years ago it was quite popular having connotations of kings and emperors.

My son's stuffed elephant was called Hannibal. Does admitting this mean that both he and I will now be attacked by Carthaginians wishing to re-contest the Punic wars?

That's true in Austria certainly, not sure about Germany. Then again Austria does have some ridiculously strict laws on things like that.

On holiday in Berlin, some twenty years ago, my friend bought a (very expensive) Stieff bear (one of those with the tags in the ears), she called it Adolf, and a much loved bear he is too!

Is it just me or is GB one of the few contries (sets of countries?) that actually alter our laws to accomodate other peoples and yet what do they ever do for us?

I suppose some countries did allow alcohol provided it was only consumed in hotels and, if that is correct, it was only because they wanted the tourist's money (and somewhere to go for a drink)?
