| I'm off to Barcelona next Wednesday for three days to celebrate my Birthday. We are staying in an apartment just off Passeig del Born, so are very central. I'd appreciate any information on interesting bars and restaurants and must do things whilst I'm there. I have a couple of guide books, so I know what the main attractions are, but if there are any quirky or interesting places you think I should go/shop/eat/drink I'd be grateful for your help. Even though I'm celebrating, I'm not bothered about 'expensive' - as everyone knows, I'm a cheap bird me Thanks in anticipation of your help. Helen xxx

| Don't eat anywhere on the ramblas! most places on here are touristy and not very good. Head over to the gothic quarter and wander round all of the back streets - my advice is though if you see a place you like to eat go to it there and then! we're still looking for the one we wanted and still haven't been able to find it again! (all of the streets look remarkably similar) also a trip over to the neu camp is worth a look (about 1 euro on the metro form playa d'catalunya) and a game if you fancy it. also try to get to the top of the cathedral - the stairs are a bit of a trek but well worth it as you get more stop off points which you don't if you get the lift. |

| Head on down to the seafront for a few hours , its quite pleasant and remarkably quiet. There are plenty of Tapas places around but not directly on The Ramblas , all will fill you up for a afew Euros. Sagrada Familia is stunning,as has been said take the very narrow staircase. Parc Guell (sp) is also a good day with more of Gaudis work(not that you ll get away from it in Barcelona anyway) I m sure more will come to me later.

| the bus tour is excellent. born where you are is pretty nice, lots of eclectic shops and bars. i was given a tour by 2 locals and they took us straight to that area. we ate in a local himalayan type place, can't remember the name but it was excellent. gaudi house nice as is church. main street up to diagonal has lots of nice bars and shops. las ramblas is like oxford street.
