call blocker

We have been having a moan in the office about cold calling (you can see how busy we are ) have done a search on google and have come across a box called "call blocker" which retails at £54. Does anybody in YDland have any experience of this box, I presume it must plug onto your phone somehow. My colleague wants to get one for his elderly mother who has been getting a growing number of annoying calls from various business'

IME the TPS only works with certain companies so some may still get through.

How true. I had this call the other night...
Me: Hello;....Hello? (long pause, nearly hang up)
them:Hello, is that Scubee?
me: Yes
Them: Good evening. i am calling from x Market research. We are conducting a survey. Don't worry, this isn't a sales call. I am not going to sell you anything.
me:No, of course not. Could you please tell me where you got my ex-directory telephone number?
Them: Oh, we have an automated dialling system. It randomly calls numbers in a particular area
Me: Well perhaps you would like to refer your auto dialler through the TPS because I have specifically registered with them to ensure I don't get nuisance calls like this one.
Them.:erm...splutter...

Me: Hangs up

Not going to sell me anything- ha ha ha!

My colleague has registered his mum with TPS and silent call but calls are still filtering through. The info on "call blocker" suggests that all unwanted calls are blocked

I must be lucky then cos I don't get any marketing or sales calls.

TPS will not stop calls from abroad
Silent calls occur when the automated dialler is making too many calls for the callers to handle.

As an ex call centre compliance officer TPS is your best option

we used TPS with my wifes gran and it stopped most of the calls. For the rest we got her a caller display box with a big screen so she could could read it, she now just ignores any withheld numbers and any not recognised by the address book.

I'm also registered with tps at home and apart from the odd d1ck head from canada tryingt to sell shares it works fine. Untill i put may car into the autotrader, i'm now getting up to two calls a night from callers that have buyers cueing up to buy my car...........

They might of been asking for a quick SMS usage survey
