Anyone good with PC's/PC Games?

I purchased a game for my PC - Prostroke Golf.

The minimum systems requirements on the case are apparently:

Windows 2000/XP
Pentium III 733 MHz or AMD Athlon 750 (Pentium III 800MHZ or faster recommended)
128MB RAM (256MB recommended)
32MB 3D Accelerator card with hardware T & L (nVidia GeForce 2 or higher)
Direct X9.0c (included on DVD ROM)

My PC:
Windows XP
AMD Athlon XP1700+, MMX, 3D Now ~ 1.5GHz
512MB RAM
64MB nVidia GeForce 4 MMX440 - 3D Acceleration
Direct X9.0c

OK - so I install it and go to play it - screen freezes - can hear the audio, but nothing????......

I used the DirectX diagnostic tool to check my system against the min requirements - also I check the display has the 3D acceleration enable and working - all good.

So do any of you clever gamers out there have any ideas????

Many Thanks in advance...

Roy

The first thing I would do is update your video drivers

Ditto on the driver issue, does the whole computer freeze or just the game?
Also is there just music or does pressing buttons and mouse clicking make sounds, just curious to see if the game or just the visuals have crashed.

I had this problem with an almost identical spec PC (even the same video card).

Video driver update sorted it.

Hi,

if your processor is dual-core you probably need to set the game to only use one processor.

When the game is started get your task manager running (ALT, CTRL & Delete), find the game .exe in the list of active processes, right click on it and click on 'Set Affinity'. Two processors (e.g. CPU1 & CPU2) will be ticked so untick one and click ok. Close the task manager and go back to the game. It will probably work ok.

If your machine is not dual-core it will probably be your video/audio drivers as previously mentioned.

I have quite a few games that need one of the processors switching off.

HTH,

Mark.

The MX440 is not a 9.0c card, that could be the fundamental flaw in your cunning plan? You may well have 9.0c installed on your PC but the gfx card simply doesn't have the hardware to run 9.0c features, I don't think it's even DirectX 8 iIRC.

New gfx card needed probably.

Possibly the game is trying to run at a really high resolution that your monitor cant handle.
Also maybe try changing the colour to 32bit if its set on 16, or vice versa.

Also i dont think its the card/directx thing. DX will usually do a nice job of emulating things if the card isnt fully compliant, or the game will run at the minimum settings level. The game even says geforce 2 or higher in the specs.

Try a different card if you have one.

Try installing the patch below.

DirectX can't emulate missing hardware, 9.0c needs certain functions on the gfx card and if they are not there then the game most likely no workey.
