| i had a sit and a listen to the new evo special edition carbon fibre thing when i picked up my car from the mitsi garage, all i can say is it made an impression on me it looked and sounded awesome, it made a sweet noise when it was fired up and was really smart, well the the brass i had a blast in an old evo a few years back in wales, and all i can say is it was shit fast and handled like a dream, i reckon this is second on my list only to a tvr at the min

The oft peddled urban myth of them driving themselves due to computer trickery is a load of cods I'm afraid. The Evo is probably the most fun you can have in a car on the right road. Active Yaw Control or the later SAYC makes bugger all difference to the way the car drives, merely how it reacts at the absolute limit of adhesion, something very few people will ever experience, especially on a public road. AYC is a kind of 'I'll try to save your butt at the 11th hour kind of thing' but of course it's unable to exceed the laws of physics! A correctly setup Evo is the epitome of feedback and control on backroads and lanes and the fact that it can do all this yet able to cover motorway distance whilst seating 4 in comfort is quite staggering. Round a track (yawn!) the Evo is a reasonable car but on a dirty B road is where it thrives If it's of any interest I feel a little qualified to answer the original poster as an MSA International Rally licence holder, having successfully competed in rallying for 10+ years in hi-spec front, rear and 4wd cars as well as teaching at rally school. in my spare time I give private track and motorsport driving tuition in many top-end sports cars (Available for hire if you wish!! Davie. P.S I do whole heartedly agree that the EVO is an awesome bit of driver centric machinery and goes like sh*t off a hot shovel. P.P.S They still have no class what so ever and Broady is right they aren't designed to have. P.P.P.S Still doesn't change the fact they are just wrong if your over the age of puberty and have any sense at all.

| Understood Pete - just really chews me when I hear the old 'drives itself' line. They don't, I've driven plenty and seen loads in ditches and at breakers from those that maybe thought the same. Its just one of those cars that you can drive with any level of experience. If you are an old Doris pottering to the shops or 'pushing on' on your own private lanes at the dead of night - *ahem*. On the tyres thing you really shoudln't be paying more than £150 a tyre for 18's on the RX8 or £ 130 ish for the standard 17's on an Evo. Thinking back I would just about get 60 stage miles out of a set of Michelin cut-slicks on the Evo rally car with no change from £800 - and if you wanted to be competetive you'd account for 2 sets per event!! Diving's so much cheaper !! Drive & dive safe Graham Last edited by broady : 01-12-07 at 12:16 AM. Reason: wasn't making sense - prob still doesnt !! |
