I've got a Mitsubishi L200 at the moment which does about 32-35mpg, it's the same size engine so just wondering how it compares. I have a distrust of dealer's specs.

I guess I will now officially be a pikey

Cheers,

I don't have a pic of the back with me but this is how the car looks:

The hardtop has a lock in the center. By turning it two bars lock on the side of the hard top not allowing to open the glass. As the glass goes over the tailgate you can't open that either. It's not a bad lock, you are more likely break the glass than the lock.
The old L200 I could open the tailgate from 0º to 180º, with this model I can't, it goes to about 135º. This is a pain when loading cargo with forklift.

My version is what I call the 4 jap version, it's two doors with two seats behind, but either you take kids are small japs but not two normal adults. For me it's where I throw all the crap in! This version allows for good space at the back for cargo. In the two door version the back window goes down but if you have hard top that does not help much!

I find hard tops to be very helpful. For me it protects cargo including dive kit, I just throw all the stuff at the back. Check prices and availability from suppliers and also from independent suppliers.

As for comsumption the hard top on it goes from 8.4l/100km to about 9.4l/100km. You can get it lower, my foot lies about 120km/hr on motorway.

I had a look at one of those the other day. The small irritant is that they don't have climate control; just on / off air con; which in this day and age seems a bit "steam driven". Still, nice truck. I'll be trying the new Navarra this week.

Funny enough, test drove the Navara yesterday! I thought the 2.5l diesel may lack a little go, but it was amazingly nippy, and extremely quiet @ 80 mph also. The new toned down interior is a big improvement, and nice to have a rev counter so the dash looks 'normal'. I didn't expect to like it as I was waiting to order a Toyota Hilux for March, but I think for the money, the Navara is a much better truck. Bigger payload too. The special offer model I drove was called 'a long way down' which is the middle spec vehicle, with 'bargain' leather, sat nav, bluetooth, sunroof package and excellent value for money @ £22k inc.

The downside? The fuel economy in comparison with the Hilux and also the fact that the emisions are the highest in the group @ 264 gm/k for the 2.5L manual. Fuel economy is 23.9 urban, 32.8 ex. urban & 28.8 combined. I have just been comparing that with the Isuzu Rodeo - also a 2.5 common rail diesel, but that only kicks out 213 gm/k and with better fuel economy.

I did the figures last night and the increased consumption will cost around £10 per dive trip, which is fine, but if TUW Brown starts to penalise soft roaders, the Nissan will among the first to suffer. However, I don't know if commercial road fund licence has emission groupings - must find out.

If the choice was just higher fuel consumption with the same lower emissions, I would take the Nissan over the Toyota as the attention to interior storage, and the equipment levels are far superior.

Off to drive the 3L HiLux tommorow, I expect I will like it, but I will be hankering after the sunroof & the door mirrors with puddle-lights in the bottom

Di

The L200 ? They are just gay

PS Anyone want to buy a Toyota Landcruiser - 1994 with 192,000 on the clock. Brilliant dive vehicle.

I'm waiting fo an insurance cheque so I can get the Navara 4.0.

I tried the L200 Animal and didn't like it. It's a birds car nowadays.
Yes the old L200 was a mans car the new one however is sissy. Go for the Navara. Yes the dash might look like a brick but it's a 4x4 work horse.

If you want wood finish with full leather interia, buy a bloody Audi.

Navara all the way

In the end I bought a three year old Isuzu Rodeo but I got the 3.0L version. On a motorway run I get about 38mpg and about 35mpg on average for normal roaming about. Don't expect a Navara-like interior, I think these are pitched more at works van owners than as car alternatives. Push button 4wd selection is a nice feature too and when I've had it offroad it's been good, almost too much power in low range, it was hard to keep it slow. I love it. I'd tried both the L200 and the Navara but much preferred the Isuzu.

Not sure if LGV tax is emission related, I got mine last week and it seemed to be a flat £175. I don't remember seeing any banding on the V5.

I had a L200 Warrior on lease for 6mths. I wasn't overly bothered by it either. I found it underpowered and not very hardwearing -- the foam in the back seats deformed badly and the paintwork didn't resist scratches very well (luckily not bad enough to get charged by the lease company), the body was a bit tinny too and the tailgate ended up with a load of dents (I can heartily recommend Dentbusters if you live in the north-west, only cost about £20 to get the worst repaired). Tiny for a double cab too, I struggled to get everything for a week's diving in it. It really feels like it's designed for company car drivers that want a trendy alternative.

Cheers,

Stuart
