Diamond stud earrings

So. Missus Woz fancies a pair for Christmas. Now I know diddly squit about jewellery so can anyone give me a quick rundown about what I should be looking for? Obviously she's expecting rocks the size of marbles but is more likely to get rocks you need a microscope to spot. And even then they'll be Cubic Zircona.

Garf- have a shuftie in that Elizabeth Duke catalogue you keep next to your scanner will you and see if they've anything in stock?

If t'were me, I'd like square cut ones. Studs, that is, not huge chandelier-stylee ones.

I have a pair which were made from two of the stones from an Aunt's engagement ring, I would rather have a pair of small real stones than a larger stone of something else.

Don't be a tight wad and buy the real thing, although I would be more inclined to take Mrs Woz to choose them unless you are really confident and I am guessing not

Find a local independent jeweler, a lot sell second hand ones which are a much better buy.

Diamonds come in all sorts of quality and colours! My daughter has a pair of 1 carat diamond studs and they cost just under £1000 but they are very good white diamonds with no flaws in them.
Also look at the mounts and the type of cut. and of course insurance!! I think Missus Woz is a very lucky lady.

Woz go to Hatton Garden you will get the best deal going. But not on a Friday night or a Saturday.

Go to Herbert's the Jewellers on Wheeler Gate in Nottingham (just up and opposite from Virgin) - nice traditional little shop, quality stuff not chavvy, and not a rip off - they will help you out!

Woz - if you are looking for decent stuff - then think about going to the Birmingham Jewellery quarter..

Good quality stuff at about 50-60% of the price.

In my very recent, and rather expensive experience (and as others have already said) get hold of someone independent and talk to them about what you want. Don't get overly concerned about colour and clarity - often you can get stones that, on paper, aren't the best but that look fantastic.
