Hi Roy,

You have to logg on to your router, the ip address will be written on the bottom something like 192.168.0.1

Type the ip address in the internet search bar.
Then you should be into the router, have a look arround and you will find where to put a password in.

Good luck, Grant.

You have encrypted it by adding a WEP key I presume? This maybe on a sticker on your Wireless Router or certainly with your documentation. Don't broadcast your SSID. Read the manual.

Some guidance here, here and here.

2 things:
  1. Change the admin password.
  2. Use WEP.

There are other methods but that's the simplest and quickest.

Not all systems can use WPA-PSK (not sure if it's the wireless card or operating system) I have four computers on my home network (don't ask why) and one of them cannot use WPA-PSK

It's the hardware, so either check the manufacturers website for your existing card and see if there is a firmware update, or buy a new wireless NIC.

Frankly anybody who turns on WEP thinking is protecting them is living in cloud cuckoo land. The software required to break it is readily avaliable on the internet. Last time I tried it took me less than 5 mins to break the encryption (my own systems). You might as well not bother using it.

cheers,
Paul

With the new weakness uncovered 128 bit (104)WEP is now roughly 40 seconds from start to finish on my laptop. Its utterly worthless.

WPA is the only way to go. As for a key, generate a random hex code. Using just letters and numbers makes it dramatically easier to brute force.
