OK, the theory I heard (still not sure I beleve it...)

Covens of witches record spells onto the cassettes, and then thread them around the bushes and hedgerows, usually at bends in the roads etc. cursing the area and causing accidents.

Those of us who like music keep our tapes (remember them - compact cassette!) in proper cases.


However, a majority of people would just bung them on the dashboard.

Cue summer evening, driving like a twat, take right hand bend quite sharpish...

Tape scoots across dashboard and out of open window and ends up in the hedgerow.

Wind blows tape out of cartridge and into trees.

The one I can't understand is Video Tapes..... Who has a VHS player in their car?

(I know, I know - there was an in-car VHS which was the forerunner to the in-car DVD player for kids...)

I used to fill in all the labels and the insert etc whenever I taped a record I'd bought. Still got many shoe boxes full in the loft, all cracking stuff as well!

Ipods etc have taken quite a bit of fun out of the music experience, it's too easy now.

It would be interesting to hear what they'd recorded on the tapes. Maybe "Witchy Woman" by the Eagles, or "Black Magic Woman" by Santana?

But seriously I think it might be magpies that have pulled the tape out of the cassettes.
