Smile Mmm, today I have been cooking...

A dull wet start to the day made me decide to while it away in the kitchen. First up I made panna cotta, from a recipe I found on this rather good website here. Mr Helen and I enjoyed a little one each for afternoon tea, and how very lovely it was too (though it was disgustingly rich and indulgent - less is more, I think!).

I then decided to try the pasta making machine that Mr Helen bought me for Christmas last year and which I've not got round to using . I was a bit disappointed though, as the dough got stuck in the machine and the rollers kept jamming, so I had to roll it out by hand. This proved not an easy task and I fear my ravioli may be a bit thick (yeah, yeah, like me ).

I used a round pastry cutter to cut out circles of dough and filled them with a mixture of minced white crab meat, parsley, chilli, lemon zest and juice, and fresh parmesan*. This smelled really nice so I'm looking forward to boiling up these little half-moon parcels later - I just hope they aren't too stodgy.

What does everyone else get up to on a wet Saturday if you're not diving?

*Edit - I made this recipe up myself, so I hope it's nice!

Helen xxx

Well today, I painted some doors and a load of skirting board, and cleaned out a big built in cupboard. Then this afternoon I went out for a ride on the motorbike, calling in at Stoney Cove for a coffee, and stopping at a couple of bike shops for a drool over alternative shiny things.
Now I am cooking dinner!

Derek, you always seem to be painting - is it not all finished yet?

I'm making a fish pie with coley, salmon and tiger prawns.

Just to clarify they're in the pie rather than making it with me.

Fortunately it wasn't wet. But as SWMBO is busy tasting Heston Blue Mentals recipes in Bray so I have the kids. After a quick tidy up in the house it was off onto the local bike/walking trail so the kids could try out their bike and scooter.

We then got back and I made chicken/turkey pasta. Dead easy.....chicken/turkey stock....bits of leftover chicken/turkey......a little garlic (half clove)......some butter.......20g flour towards the end to thicken and a smidge of cream for a vevlety finish. Then add it to cooked pasta.

The kids inhaled it....adn if I do say so myself....was rather tasty.

This arvo the kids played with their toys and watched a bit of TV whilst I divided my time between drinking wine and surfing

No off to dish up dinner ....ham, egg and chips
