Obtaining a new Driving Licence ASAP!!!

I have a bit of a problem and was wondering if anyone in the know can tell me if it's possible to obtain a new driving licence asap.

I have a job in Italy and need to hire a car out there but I havent go my driving licence, went through the wash some time ago and was waiting to move into my new address, which I have now done.

Is there any way I could get a new driving licence by next week, I don't mind driving accross to Swansea if they can do it there an then.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can get a replacement over the phone if all the details are the same name, address ect £19.00 I think.
If you have changed anything then it has to be via the normal system.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply James, my address has changed, also I need the licence in a weeks time. I know you can get a passport the same day if your prepaired to sit and wait and was wondering if you can do the same with a licence.

Have a look here:

Might give you some contact numbers if nothing else!

No they don't do a very quick turn around. They say 3 weeks for all of the replacements but can normally do them in 2 weeks.

No help for you though.

if your old licence was the old style paper jobby then you will have to apply for the newer style 2 part licence which will take slightly longer at the best of times.

if you have the 2 part licence and have only got the card bit, dont worry - i havent been asked for the paper counterpart when presenting my plastic card when abroard, sometimes they dont even ask to see it, they are more interested in my passport.

ps. you do need to update your details with DVLA right away or they could lump you with up to £1000 fine

Lost License

I too have lost my license, and I only discovered that I had on the day before I went on holiday. I approached a hire company in Corfu, and told them I had left my license at home. They gave me a number to ring at the DVLA, it cost me £5 but they faxed my details to the hire company who then hired me a car. I was stopped by the police and fined 10 euros for not carrying my license, but hey what the hell, I still had a good holiday. It might be worth a try.
Tony

Thanks Tony, I phoned DVLA yesterday and they told me the same. Just need to make sure I'm at the hire company before 19:30, as it can take an hour to sort the fax and they close 20:00.
