Wonderful.

33C forecast for today, U-V Index is 11 (extreme), low humidity and "extreme fire weather" and there's a total fire ban for the south of the State.

Beautiful.

Is the drought still on? i.e were the winter rains OK this year?

Well it's a funny thing. Parts of the State are still in drought, other parts are very very wet, it's pretty good here in Hobart but the fire ban is what happens when it's hot, low humidity and strong winds forecast. In those conditions, as you know, eucalypts will burn a week after they've had an inch of rain on them.

The only difference is that unlike last year this is the first firee ban day we've had and it's fairly late. Last year we were having big bushfires & 30C+ temps in October and it went on right through into March. This time last year, we had two massive (30,000+ hectares ) fires on the go.

But I'm away to go diving in a few minutes

You had to work? I didn't know the Navy were in town over New Year.

Well I hope for your sake that he used plenty of lubricant.
