surprisingly it does work especially coupled with the possibility of losing treats/priveliges.

eldest has been slapping her mum a few times root cause another kid in school doing it to her. we talked about why you shouldn't hit and removed computer priveliges till the new year. we told her it was till 100 pints had been earned and on NYD 100 points were rerached she got computer back and is behaving very well. currently on 75 points from starting from scratch and on course for her choice of treat on sunday. if she doesn't reach 100 she won't get her choice.
