Past train time table for London to Liverpool???

I'm trying to find out which trains actually ran between London and Liverpool (probably Euston to Lime St) on Friday the 28th December.

I'm just trying to check if someone is trying to bullsh*t me about not being able to get a train after 4pm on that day.

The train checker type thing won't let me have past dates and the timetables which I downloaded don't say anything about the festive period, so I don't know if I can trust them, but they say there was one every hour?

I also tried calling a national rail helpline, but the Indian guy I spoke to sounded like he was looking at the same web page as me and could not give past info.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

James

Isn't this the period that the West Coast line was shut at Rugby and no through trains were running till today. (It the big news story over the past 4 days due to the overrun) However I do think that a shuttle service was running via coach from Northampton to Coventry, but it may have given people the impression that there was no service at all as I guess the train people would have been saying no direct service is available.

I don't think that they guy was winding you up - there were serious possession overruns at that time and the services were being started off from Coventry going to Liverpool. There was a bus replacement service between Northampton and Coventry but it is likely that there was only a limited service from London to Northampton.

HTH.

I had a look at the Rugby line but it's not on the same one as Liverpool, so although it may have affected it in some way I didn't know how much?

oh yes it is, all trains from euston on the WCML go through Rugby, the trains change directions after that for the different north west destinations usually at crewe but sometimes at stafford.( manchester services through stoke and stockport) scotland services go through warrington) liverpool trains generally go through watford milton keynes ,rugby, lichfield trent valley, stafford crewe, runcorn then into lime street.

they can divert through Northampton coventry brum wolverhampton crewe if the line is closed but this would be a long term plan and as most of the line through the latter bit is not a high speed line and full of slower trains hence the bus links.

the service was appalling with nowhere near enough buses laid on to meet demand , which is usually the case. I have been due to get the fast train from chester plenty of times on a sunday and been told that there is a bus service to northampton from crewe and have got a local bus back to north wales borrowed my dads car and driven back to London quicker than the bus/train combo.

looks like your friend is telling the truth.

Hi James

Yes they were running that day, my better halfs mum came by train that day from London (I'm presuming it was Euston) to Lime St. They were delayed and some changes had to be made in the Rugby area

The line from London to Liverpool does go through Rugby - definately. 100% guaranteed. Honest. The train may not stop at Rugby but the route up the West Coast Main Line.

The line from London splits at a place called Roade with one line going via northampton and the other via Stowe Tunnel. They then rejoin and come into Rugby. Going north there are two lines - one is a line to Birmingham via Coventry that then goes onto Liverpool with certain operators and the other line goes through Tamworth and Crewe and splits again just north of Stafford with one line going to Manchester and the other to Liverpool.
