I stopped smoking on the 12th of Jan 2002.

I had spent 4 months in 2001 working in Germany, buying cheap fags at airports. When the job finished I worked out how much it would cost to continue smoking when the stockpile ran out and scared myself silly. The day after I opened the last packet of the stockpile I went out and bought a supply of patches and a digital camera (if I stopped smoking for 3 months, they were paid for).

I stopped then, but couldn't have done it without the patches. .

The things I enjoy the most are smelling clean (clothes, hair, etc) and tasting food properly. The first time I smelt a banana without seeing it first was also a revelation.

Now, although there are times that I could murder for a cigarette, (but they pass); I can't stand the smell of stale cigarette smoke ( I bought a 2nd hand BCD on Ebay and can't wait to get it wet to try and get rid of the smell). SWMBO also sometimes claims I was more fun when I smoked, but the kids are glad I stopped and so am I.

Well done Scubee - you know it makes sense

I quit on about 28 Dec 2001

I was going to stop at New Year but decided i'd had enough a couple of days earlier.

No patches, but i used to get a calculator out and work out how much i had saved if i ever started to relapse.

My young kids were a major motivation factor, and i never smoked in the house.

Big thumbs up from me as well...

I stopped in 2001.

My wife became pregnant and that made me stop. Cold Turkey.

Never had one since but my waistline has increased rapidly :'(

This year I aim to lose the excess baggage from quiting smoking but I fear that it will be MUCH harder then the ciggies ....

That'a awesome Scubee. Well done

You may not feel fitter, but these things are very hard to judge subjectively. Let's face it your lungs will be less full of crap now than they were a year ago, you may not feel it but I bet you are!

I stopped about seven years ago and it does get easier.

I made a deal with myself that if I gave up smoking I wouldn't worry about how much I ate, drank, or how little exercise I did for ten years

Works for me

Good luck, but remember that cigarettes are sneaky things and can creep up on on you.
