A whole year!!

This time last year, I was a smoker. we had brought a bunch of cigarettes back from holiday in Kenya and made the decision that when they were gone, we would stop.

We stopped. i had my last cigarette on 10th Jan 2007.

After a few weeks of weird dreams (the 24 hour patches seem to have a hallucinogenic effect) I felt as though I had kicked the habit, weaned myself off the nicotine and evolved into a someone who is not smoking. I can't call myself a non-smoker, because i quit for 8 years once, then took it up again. So I consider myself to be 'not smoking'.

Do I feel healthier? no. not at all. I don't feel any different, really.

Do I suddenly have plenty of money? Don't be daft - I am a diver, so there is always something to spend money on!

Life itself is much easier. I don't have to freeze outside, i don't have to plan my days to build in 'cigarette time' but best of all, i don't have my son nagging at me.

I am glad I have stopped.

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Well done you! It's not easy to stop smoking and it can be quite hard to stay stopped........ and on the benefit side - you don't smell now either!!!

good luck with staying off em.

I am a few weeks in and the patches are still giving me VERY weird dreams, so bad I now take the patch off to sleep as I don't have a craving for em in the mornings till about an hour after I am up.

Well done. I've never had any vices so I can't really empathise but I'm sure you've worked hard to achieve your smokeless status.

After a couple of weeks, i used to wonder where i would end up that night. Try the 18 hour patches - they don't seem to have as bad an effect.
Persevere, though - it is a lot easier than going cold turkey.

Di - After a few weeks, i started really noticing how badly my boss smelt. My colleagues said i didn't smell anywhere near as bad as him, but i do prefer the smell of my perfume, that's for sure. (thankfully, my boss has stopped as well now!).

For anyone thinking of stopping, or who has done it as a new years resolution - all you can do is take it one day at a time. I used to decide each morning that I wouldn't have a ciggy that day.

I hadn't done those sums!Well... that's food for thought. I doubt it has saved me that much though, because mostly they arrived rather cheaply from foreign destinations.
