| Some employers would view aplying for a job you are fairly certain is within the company to be an inflammatory move. Far better (imho) to discuss the issue on an informal basis first. you can move to a formal position, but it is impossible to do anythign informally once the formal door is opened. if it has taken them a long time to a)find you and b) find a replacement for your colleague then they will be aware that if you upped and left they would be up the proverbial sh** creek. They will not want to be in that position, but are more likely to respond positively to honesty and integrity.

| Scubee is totally correct but firstly , ill add awee bit, if you were that valued ant thought highly of the company you work for would have done the approaching , and would have run some of the ideas , and conditions of the new position , or the advertised position past you ,to use you as an informal sounding board , regarding your views on training , division of duty etc , but they havnt , so its allready sort of gone a bit sour , only my opinion. All in all its the worst sort of place to be , but how will you feel going in every day if this is bubbling away under the surface . A very good friend of mine used to say ,,,,, you teach people how to treat you ,,, if you put up with grief they will give you grief to put up with , but at the same time suddenly finding yourself with no income because you have high morrals isnt any fun either . i guess its all about being in a position to call the shots , against the fear of what happens if you do . ie single no mort no kids makes it easy to be bolshy. incidently , im self employed , too many simlar things in the past . but at the end of the day ,,,, think carefully about any action , you take , even the choice to do nothing is an action , because whatever you do , you will have plenty of time to reflect on it all ,,,,,,, its always clear looking back , the mist is only ever infront . but good luck with it , its a bad situation , hope it works out well in the end. |

| ps scubee just read scubee s profile , no wonder he is totally right . his would be by far the better route to follow , hands down , no messing . But ill still stick by what ive said. thats not meant to be offensive , or inflamatory , just what id do , in my circumstance , and just as a point of interest , ive been sacked from, and ,or ,walked out of some really good jobs . |

| There is no requirement to pay you the same money as the new guy. I recently negotiated salary with our lot and found variances of several thousand for people doing the same job. I would suggest you allow them to recruit (partly because you could well find out that the actual pay is far less than the recruitment consultant is saying, or they've got it wrong) and then as soon as you know someone is coming just have an open discussion about it. I find there's a few bosses who will lie to your face, but I find when asked a direct question many will either tell you the truth or wriggle out of it. If they're paying £10K more for the new guy they can afford £10K more for the guy already doing it. In theory you should pay back your own salary and then some in sales, so they only stand to gain from having a motivated sales manager who isn't looking around for a new job. By the sounds of things (like a lot of places) they are struggling to recruit good people already, so they'll be very keen not to lose you. If it was me I wouldn't apply for the job. For a start it could tell your boss you're looking around and that is often not a good idea. But the recruitment consultant should be able to tell you who it is. For a start you can tell them you are only interested in working for a company with a good name in the area and asking for it. They already have your details so if you went and got the job then they'd be able to realistically charge the company anyhow. Digs. |

| It's a pisser but it happens. When I left IBM in Manchester 10 years ago they promoted 2 guys to do my job and paid then each £7000 more than I had been paid. That's £14,000 more and two guys to the same job as I did...... If I hadn't been moving for a lot more, tax free, I might have complained......
