| Sorry to hear your problem , however some thing similar happened to a few of us a while back during "reorganisation " and we lost out by about £5k , but the firm managed to get away with it by altering , albeit ever so slightly, the job description so tread carefully. Now if anything comes allong at our place which we dont like we have the reply "sorry , not in my job description " , and all this does is anger the management and create tension, which is not good as we used to have a really good workplace enviroment and thats all gone down the pan |

| Scuttler 1st of all this is a free marketplace, the argument would be that you agreed to work for xxx therefore it's up to you to negotiate xxx +£5 or £10k if you aren't happy, the company on the other hand is declaring that they value the position at the higher value so you now have a stronger position to negotiate with, it's a bit like a prospect telling you what his maximum budget is The other side of it is the rest of the package value, will new guy get the same comp plan as you or will his variable be smaller? What about the other bennies you are on> What are they worth and will new guy get the same? Frankly, you have now seen their cards but they haven't seen yours, I'm sure someone with your skills will be able to turn this to your advantage as long as you treat it like a business deal and don't allow the perceived insult affect your thinking. Good luck.

| Peebee....cheers. I largely agree with what you're saying there. Effectively the company never gives pay rises so this is going to be a bit of a battle but I basically sat down with my boss and made my thoughts clear in as diplomatic a way as possible. He's agreed to revisit the issue with me once someone is on board. I won't know what the other guy is on although the benefits package will be the same (they can't increase the bonus plan as this is laid down by corporate) I know he'll be on a higher car allowance than me because mine isn't scheduled to re-base until August but that's swings and roundabouts. The way I see it is that the worst case scenario short of ending up looking for a new job is a £5k payrise. I'd be happy with that. |
