Question Brownie Points Query...

......... just wondering if any Yders can help with a question about Brownie Points. I have to award some for some kitchen/electrical DIY and although Mr. M. has done a marvellous job (albeit, not quite finished but good as) and I am very pleased with it, I don't want to set a precedent of 'over-awarding'.

Three years ago, we bought a small LCD TV to go in the kitchen as we spend lots of time in there, and it was to be mounted on the wall. We got as far as buying the bracket for it, but as we had space on the worksurface, it just stayed where it was, next to the coffee machine.

Hubs was bought his luverly chrome/steel Kitchen Aid for Chrimbos and that now has pride of place on the worktop, next to the TV, next to the coffee machine..... laydees, do you see where I am coming from.

So this lunchtime I asked nicely "Is there the possibility that we could put that up on the wall now? Hubs fetches his drill & stuff and after a meaningful discussion on the exact location, I was later called through to view this masterpiece of DIY and very nice it looks too.

Now the crux of the matter. Brownie Points have to be awarded and I have made a start in the calculation - neatness - 9/10, remaining cheerful 9/10, putting away of tools afterwards 7/10 (there was other unrelated stuff he could have taken to the shed at the same time, but left behind), proximity to being a complete job 8/10. All easy - but as Mr M said when he stood back "There, and how quick was that?" and that is the problem - he was quite upset when I said eh? Three years?

When do you think I should start calculating from? Should it be from three years ago, two weeks ago (when I mentioned it in passing), or as he thinks, did the clock start at lunchtime?

Please help!

Di

EDIT - I have added a poll as I am too stupid to keep track & atm Mr M is awash with BP's!

It is generally best to use a derivative of the rules for Mornington Cresent when awarding Brownie points. Look for the book "NF Stovold’s Mornington Crescent: Rules and Origins" for more information.

I think you should placate him and start counting from today. Then tally up how many points you yourself have earned over your three year wait, and go out and buy yourself some shiney.

Stop moaning woman, these things take time and planning, sometimes I'm aware of a job that needs doing for ages but until I'm clear in my mind HOW I will do it I don't even start, but when I do the job gets done, so the point is, DID IT GET DONE? If so stop moaning and give him the nooky you want to give him anyway. , Of course in my case, there is no Mrs Bee to nag me, not of course that you would ever consider nagging would you!

does the TV have built in freeview? If not, it'll need to be replaced, so by fixing it to the wall he has done a BAD THING and should be PUNISHED.

This is a philosophical matter, so consider this:

If a man says something in a forest and there's no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?

Considering what you get away with women stop blinking moaning, poor Rob can't do right for doing wrong.

Tell him what a lovely hubby he is and pour him a glass of wine

Forget the brownie points, go Hollywood prematurely and give him his birthday and Christmas present early

Safe diving,

obviously. You can tell when a man is wrong, because his mouth moved.

Anyway, to Di's Dilemma...

I would say the clock started ticking from the time the worktop got to be too crowded. So that would be whenever Kitchen Aid appeared.

Allowing him to get away with not doing a job for three years means you have to accept some responsibility for lack of Nagging.

However, bonus Brownie Points for tidying up at all, and not leaving it to you.

Yep... sit him down with a glass of wine
