I need some serious advice...

I have been trying to stop myself from throwing a wobbler and keep this off the boards but its eating away at me and I can no longer contain myself. I know of a possible peadophile/rapist here in Thailand and there seems to be naff-all that I can do about it. He's British and confided in me over a year ago that his daughter had filed a rape charge against him. After initially giving him the benefit of doubt I now believe he has raped a young Thai girl also and got away with it. With that in mind I tracked his daughter via Google and have spoken to her on the phone and I believe she is truthfull though the charge has been dropped due to him being out of reach of UK authorities. What the hell can be done about this? I have heard that there are agencies who can track and trap such people but I don't know who they are or where they are - can anyone help?

If he ever comes back to the UK here can be arrested and charged. It is now an offence if such crimes happen on foreign territory.

Probably worth a chat with your nearest consular/embassy.

If you are in the UK report this to the police here and insist that they take your statement. You might have to first convince (tactfully) the enquiry officer that there is an offence which they can investigate - they may well not have dealt with international crimes before.

The Thai police may take a report from a UK police force more seriously than one from an individual, but any action in Thailand depends on the willingness of the Thai authorities to do something. If they do, the consequencies for the offender could be very serious indeed, but I have no idea how seriously the Thai police treat these sort of offences or what standard of justice can be expected in a Thai court. As Adrian says above, if he returns to the UK and is detected he can be arrested and prosecuted here although it will be difficult with all the evidence and witnesses in Thailand.

If you are convinced there's truth behind the allegations I think you must act. IF he is a paedophile the probability is that he will offend again.

Don't go for the lynching you probably feel is worthwhile. Do get authorities involved. I would speak to the British Embassy and ask for advice.

Just remember that his guilt or otherwise isn't for you or anybody else here to decide.

Olle, thats just the kind of info I need, thanks... and thanks to everyone else too. I have 2 x Smith & Wesson .38's in the house and if I thought I could get away with it I'd zap the monster with the noisy end of one. However, the 'Bangkok Hilton' do a fine room service for such people and following the links above may do the trick - thanks again!

A calmly written email to the British Consulate in Bangkok would be an easy way to start. Both as decent human-beings and as HMG's representatives they would be duty bound to file a report in both Thailand and the UK and then wheels should start turning in the Thai and UK police and immigration. It won't be the quickest way to solve this problem but it is a first step.

It's not in anyone's interest to have people like this roaming around - but vigilante action isn't the solution and a court is.

If anyone touched my daughter I doubt that I could be so logical but....
