I'd agree with this too.

I'd also say buy her a little something extra too - not too expensive but if you weren't proposing actually on her birthday then she'd have got a ring and a present! Try for something romantic...

Regarding an actual birthday present I guess it depends on what your normal "present routine" is. If she will be expecting it first thing in the pre-work rush go for something relatively cheap/small in addition to the ring, perhaps telling her that she will get her main present later. If on the other hand you normally wait till the evening I would say dropping down on one knee (or similar) will be seen as more than enough of a present.

Does she dive? Take the ring back to the shop for a refund, buy her a cheaper ring and spend the rest on new dive kit for HER - just an idea!
I got SWMBO smashed on brandy and babycham( and I had about 10 pints for courage) then asked her at my house, she asked me to repeat the question 4 times then said yes. she then went home to her mum and dads and came round the following morning and asked me if I remembered anything about last night, I played daft- not hard - and made her say that i had asked her to marry me then told her I remembered everything and yes I still wanted her to marry me.

once we had the ring I did t the bended knee bit at her parents house in front of her dad who thought i was the best thing since sliced bread
